Studio Bureau, a creative agency focused on visual design and communication, was faced with a challenge: developing tables for the Future Campus exhibition during the Onderwijsdagen 2024. Commissioned by SURF, an organization that promotes innovation in education, they wanted to make tables from cardboard instead of wood, to save costs and at the same time create a more manageable product. This idea fits perfectly with their mission to develop powerful, sustainable and creative concepts.

Custom Made Cardboard Tables

The tables had to be both aesthetically pleasing to the exhibition and functional for a special interactive experience. Visitors could use a QR code on the tables to use AR technology to see a 3D figure that took them through the future of education. The tables themselves had to be sturdy enough to support the weight of using the technology, and the design also had to allow for branding with custom prints.

After consulting with Studio Bureau, we custom-manufactured the tables using re-board cardboard, a lightweight yet sturdy material choice. Thanks to a clever addition of a triangular reinforcement in the middle, the tables gained extra stability. This system provided the perfect solution to the need for a sturdier construction without sacrificing the lightweight, durable nature of cardboard.
