In 2015, the founders noticed how many tents were discarded at campsites after festivals (as many as 25%) and decided to do something about it. With expertise and a passion for cardboard from TU Delft, Kartent was created: a fully recyclable cardboard tent, strong enough to withstand rain and large enough for two people.

These tents have been successfully used all over the world, at events such as Madnes (NL), Welcome to the Village (NL), Best Kept Secret (NL), Helfest (FR), Unify (AUS), and more. To improve the recyclability of the cardboard after festivals, a cutting machine was purchased, allowing the cardboard to be cut into various desired shapes.

Using a cutting machine, we had the opportunity to turn used tents into new products: upcycling. Soon, products like a chair, table, and waste bin were made from used cardboard.

The pandemic gave us a unique opportunity to unleash our creativity even further. With no more festivals, we had switched to recycled cardboard instead of old cardboard tents. Within a few months, we had a webshop with 200 cardboard products.
