De materialen moeten voor behandeling schoon en droog zijn. Dek de omgeving af met doeken of plastic. De vloeistof kan d.m.v. sprayen of dompelen gelijkmatig worden aangebracht. Het materiaal moet na behandeling goed vochtig zijn, druppelend is niet noodzakelijk maar kan voorkomen bij dompelen of synthetische vezels.
